I’ve never used coupons “religiously”  before but I know I would like to. My husband and I have figured out that we need to cut $50 a month from our grocery budget. I’m giving myself until June to make this a reality and I’m starting slow. Because with coupons, I’ve found that it’s hard not to start slow. Like I said, I’ve never done this before so it’s new to me. However, my recent savings of $4.95 made me SOO happy. I blogged about it here with the promise of showing you what our change jar looks like. So I’m keeping my promise.
First I want to show you my savings. Like I said…this made me incredibly happy.

Okay. So the deal we made was that every extra cent I save using coupons would be put in our coin jar to be saved “for a rainy day.” If we don’t experience a “rainy day” within one year, we would decide as a family (or rather, a couple since our son isn’t capable of making many decisions on his own, but in a year…who knows?) what we would use it for. Be it a vacation, big item, etc. I also threw in the clause that after counting our savings at the end of that year, we would put 1/2 of it into a High Interest CD or Savings Bond. We do intend on sending our children to college or at least buying a home in the Florida Keys after they move out.

One more thing before the big reveal, I must ask you to withhold from laughter if you can. Our coin jar is not quite a jar. And it’s something my husband got as a gift in his teens (his sister got one too) and it really is (really!) meant to be a piggybank so I promise we didn’t just decide to use it as one, it really is one.

Without further ado. Our savings jar.

That’s right. It’s a jumbo Budweiser bottle. Please note: It never contained any alcoholic beverage. I promise.

One more thing before I sign out for the day. I’m getting a bunch of incredible deals through a website called SavingsAngel. I’ve looked at my next shopping list and on the first 4 items on my list I will spend approximately $19 on $29 worth of products. That’s right. Next time, I’ll save at least (more, I’m sure once I get the rest of my list done) $10 on my next shopping trip. I can’t wait!! So check out Savings Angel and cut your grocery bill in half! I must let you know, that if you sign up using that link, I will get a little bit of credit, but I promise you, once you start using Savings Angel, you’ll want to refer it to your friends too (and you’ll also get credit!!)

So two things have forced me to write this post and ask for help.

1) I watched “No Impact Man.” A documentary about a man in NYC and his wife and young daughter who spent a year (That’s right, 365 days) trying their best to make little/no negative impact on our Mother Earth. One of the first things they did was switch their daughter to cloth diapers. Something I’ve wished I had the mental strength to do since Abel was born and just never did. Aside from mental strength, we’d gotten so many bags of (disposable) diapers as gifts that we went 6 1/2 months without buying diapers.

2) Abel has developed an awful rash due to an increased number of BMs lately. I can deal with the increase in BMs, but the awful rash on my baby’s bottom makes me wonder if using cloth diapers (at least until it’s cleared up) will help him feel better. I got a pack of 12 Gerber Cloth diapers (see pic for reference) from my MIL with the words “Just in case you ever run out [of the disposables] and aren’t able to buy any in time.”

Thanks Momma, now I’ve got them, washed them in the sink with warm water and Johnson’s Baby Wash (I don’t have a washing machine therefore the sink and Baby Wash). I’m letting them air-dry in my dining room on a clothesline strung from the chandelier to the fireplace mantle. (Hey…I don’t have a dryer either!)

I need to ad an EDIT: I’ve been reading reviews of this particular brand/style of diaper that apparently they don’t work well as a diaper. If I could get some honest input on this brand/style as well that would be great.

Anyway, HELP!! What do I do next?? The instructions on the package consist of 3 tiny little pictures and I need help!! Please comment and help me out. What do I do now? Mind you, this is temporary at the moment, I don’t intend on investing my money in a bunch of stuff for 1 week of cloth diapering.  If it turns out we really can deal with this, I may change my mind, but for now.

1 week of cloth diapering. What would you do? Have any tips or tricks? HELP!!??!
If I can get over 10 helpful comments, I will be drawing for a $10 Babies “R” Us Gift Card. I will be using a random number generator to pick the winner. Please don’t comment more than once (unless you honestly forgot to include something) only one comment per person will be included in the drawing. I look forward to your responses!

Gift card drawing will take place on April 7th or when we get 10 comments. Whichever is last 😀

Thanks in advance for all the help!

Today is a lazy Sunday. My little monster (as I’ve lovingly dubbed thee) is running around in his walker stirring up every ounce of trouble he can. I’ve been lazing around to the point that I’m getting a headache and I’m starving because I’ve made little effort to provide myself with breakfast.

I have a small bit of wisdom for anyone reading. Don’t plan a move for only 1 month out unless A) You truly must (in my case) move or B) You have at least 4 times as much in the bank account that you’ll think it will cost to move. I’ve come across this bit of advice recently when I checked my bank account and found that we have $0 in our Checking Account, $100 in our Savings Account and it will cost us upwards of $1000 to move. (Including last months rent here and first months rent there) Now maybe I shouldn’t be complaining but as aforementioned in our bank account status, this move will be close to impossible. I don’t believe in credit cards or loans that cannot be paid. Ackk! What am I to do?

To me, it’s still Friday because I haven’t been to bed yet. But it’s actually 1:11 AM. I know, I need to sleep.
I promised I’ll try to fit in a Quick Takes next week. I’ll probably have more to talk about anyway 😀

Other than that. I have great news.
Check out this file and you’ll know the great news. If this intrigues you, don’t hesitate to call or email me!

Swagbucks has just celebrated it’s 2nd birthday and has some cool new features. For one, you can now earn WAY more points for searching and you can win more often> Check this, I won 3 times in one day, 10 bucks each time!! Usually I only win 1, once every other day. This is so neat!!

I love this website. It’s partnered with Google.com and Ask.com to bring some awesome search results for you AND giving you “prize money” (called Swagbucks) just for searching!! You can then trade in those bucks for prizes!!
The coolest part, it’s free AND anti-spam. I got a whole new email account to use when I signed up for this website because I expected spam and 3 weeks later..still none.
It’s pretty neat. I currently have 220 swagbucks and constantly counting!!

Search & Win

So the reasons I’m posting about this, I actually have two reasons.

One is this. I want you to sign up. Give it a “trial run”. Set it as your internet homepage and use it to do all your searches. When you want to go to a website, just type the website into the swagbucks searchbar. Use it for everything. If after a month, you think it’s stupid and really hate it, then ditch it! Yes, if you sign up through my link, I will get referral points, I won’t lie, but it’s really very nice. Especially if you learn to love it and you then in turn get referrals and you will get referral bucks!!

The 2nd reason: I really want to have a searchfest and I need topics. I want to do this
A) To of course learn new things about new topics, I’m weird like that.
B) Maybe (hopefully!) earn some swagbucks in the process.

So I really would love some comments on topics to search about!! Keep it clean please!
I will be giving a small prize to the commenter whose topic won swagbucks and is drawn to win.
Example: I get 10 topics from 10 different commenters. 4 of those topics win me swagbucks. I will put those 4 commenters names in a random number generator and one winner will be chosen.

The winner will recieve a Target Giftcard for $5. Take 5 seconds of your time to give me one topic and you could win $5 toward your next purchase at any Target store or Target.com.

I’ll let you all know the winner after my Searching Blitz is over.
My Searching Blitz will begin Sunday at 12:00 p.m. (noon) and end on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at 12:00 a.m. (midnight).
Between now and Tuesday evening, comment about topics I should search!

I will announce the winner on Wednesday by 10:00 p.m. In the meantime, join Swagbucks.com by using the following button.
